People are being asked to comment on plans to stop a road in Emersons Green being used as a rat-run.

Tunbridge Way runs between Blackhorse Lane and Cousins Way and is a 20mph zone.

Six years ago a petition was raised by local residents who complained that the road was being used by commuters to avoid the traffic signals at the junction of Blackhorse Lane and Westerleigh Road.

A traffic count showed that during the week approximately 1,300 vehicles per day were using Tunbridge Way with slightly more heading westbound. Traffic counts carried out earier this year showed that the daily number of vehicles using Tunbridge Way had gone up to 1,500 with almost 200 more heading westbound.

Now South Gloucestershire Council is proposing to stop Tunbridge Way being used as a shortcut by closing it - and has come up with two options.

Option A would split Tunbridge Way into two sections with half the properties accessed from Blackhorse Lane and the other half from Cousins Way.

Option B would close Tunbridge Way at the Blackhorse Lane end and all properties would be accessed from Cousins Way.

An online questionnaire has been set up to see which is the preferred option and people have until September 15 to make their views known.

    That's a handy shortcut - I don't like either option!
