Bristol Rovers 1 - 1 Sheffield Wednesday

Gasheads across Kingswood and beyond are tonight devastated after Bristol Rovers were relegated from League One.

The Pirates failed to beat Sheffield Wednesday at the Memorial Stadium. They drew, but Walsall's win over Charlton means that Rovers will not be able to overtake them because of their inferior goal difference.

Will Hoskins scored today for Rovers and Tommy Miller for Sheffield. The game went into five minutes of stoppage time, but Rovers were unable to snatch the winner they needed.

Many fans are deeply unhappy that their team will be playing in League Two again next season. Tonight one Gashead said: "I have followed Rovers for 48 years and this is the worst shambles of the club I can remember."

But a Bristol City fan said: "I'm not celebrating Rovers' relegation - just the opposite. Bristol football has always been best when both teams are strong and competing in the highest sphere they are able to at the time.

"Good luck Gas. I hope you get back up next season. I'm not being magnanimous - it's just that Bristol, including Bristol City, needs you to be competing at the highest level you can reach which ought to be above League 2."

What do other Bristol Rovers fans think?

Sad day, not a Rovers or City fan but a town the size of Bristol SHOULD have a team in the prem league. If places like Blackpool or Hull can get in there is no reason why Bristol can't. One of the reasons given to me why Bristol doesn't have a team worth it's salt is down to this: Bristol is not a huge footballing town. For many years Bristol Rugby was the biggest sporting team and did very well too. Now they are as bad as the football teams. Makes me think if City or Rovers did get in the prem league would there be enough fans to actually fill a 30k plus seater stadium, perhaps from the opposing fans. I wonder how many will now stop watching Rovers in League 2, for sure the harden Gas head will follow them anywhere but it's the extra fans needed to watch which helps pays the wages.
