The Kingswood Bus Project is being used to help tackle problems in the Southey Park area
action is being taken against
anti-social behaviour in the Southey Park area of Kingswood.
The
issue of young people causing problems every evening between 7pm and 11pm is
being tackled by the Kingswood Safer Stronger Community group following a
meeting in December.
As
a result a local youth has been given an Anti-Social Behaviour Order
(ASBO) with conditions not to attend specific areas in the vicinity of Southey
Park, temporary CCTV cameras have been installed at key spots in the area and
there is regular contact with local residents and businesses by police and the Safer South Gloucestershire Anti-social Behaviour Team.
Local
residents and the neighbourhood policing team have also been investigating
whether there is a need for an alley gate scheme at North Park, a road near Southey Park, to make the area safer at night.
The
Kingswood Bus Project, catering for
young people from the age of 11, is deployed to the area on Monday
evenings to give local youths a safe
educational and fun environment, and there are ongoing patrols by local
policing teams, including the use of off-road motorcycles.
Ways to improve facilities at Southey Park, which has a popular skate area, are also being investigated
including a new concrete skating half-pipe and new fencing.
The
next meeting of the Kingswood Safer Stronger
Community group will be on Thursday
February 25 at 10am at the Civic Centre in the High Street. All members of
the public are welcome to attend.
Meanwhile neighbourhood police in Hanham and
Longwell Green are offering support to parents worried about what their
children get up to on a Friday night.
They are offering a heavily discounted scheme for young people to use the facilities at
the Aspects Leisure Complex between 7 and 9pm on Fridays. Call
0845 456 7000 for more information.

I agree that there is no excuse for kids to say they are bored - but I dont think I blame the kids - isnt it the parents role to show their kids how to look beyond video game consolesand wanton vandalism to something more positive ?
There are enough clubs and societies out there (even in Kingswood) where energies can be more constructively channelled.
Perhaps over time this site can become a 'one stop shop' for everything on offer for the youth of Kingswood so that parents and kids can see whats on offer ?

ReportI find it strange that the kids say the reason why they vandalise things is because they are bored and have nothing to do. I was a kid before home pc's/psp's/Wii's etc and there were times when i was bored but I didn't go out and cause trouble, neither did my friends. So to say they are bored with what they now is just an excuse.

ReportIt is good that something is being done - such a shame to see so many young people with nothing inspiring for them to do in the area ... its the same all over bristol (and probably across the UK)! Fairplay to Aspects for doing their discount scheme! More companies should follow suit !
