With many people already breaking their New Year's Resolutions, one Bristol charity is offering a further incentive to stick to promised goals this January.

St Peter's Hospice has launched its 'Give it Up' campaign, which encourages people to give something up for the month while raising much needed funds for Bristol's only hospice.

Whether it's smoking or alcohol, cakes or crisps, tv soaps or hair straighteners, fundraisers at the hospice want those making sacrifices to ask friends and family for sponsorship.

St Peter's Hospice community fundraiser Petra Littlefair said: "Many people are already giving something up this January so it's a great way to get your loved ones to sponsor you!

"Not only will you be doing something for yourself, you'll also be raising funds to help us continue supporting adults with life limiting illnesses in your city.

"We're asking people to give up absolutely anything from swearing to cake, and you don't even have to do it for the whole month; just set yourself a goal and take on the challenge!"

St Peter's Hospice is Bristol's only adult hospice and cares for more than 2,670 patients every year as well as grieving family members. It costs £6.8 million to run the hospice yearly with the majority of that coming from schemes like this one.

Petra continued: "This is a brand new fundraiser so we're really hoping people get behind it. Every single day we rely on fundraisers to raise £3800 to enable us to continue working and provide our services free of charge to families in need."
