After the success of its summer show Engineers' Blue, South Gloucestershire's first professional theatre is back with a spectacularly spooky Christmas show The Hound of the Baskervilles.
Arthur Conan Doyle's classic has been re-written with a twist by local playwright Bruce Fellows following a competition at Bristol's leading writing group Southwest Scriptwriters. The show recreates the atmospheric darkness of a wintery Dartmoor in true theatrical style, with songs from the music hall age and, in it's biggest twist, a female Sherlock Holmes. Based in Tower Lane above Kingswood Heritage Museum, the flexible theatre space means that the audience are immersed in the action as Holmes and her trusty sidekick Dr Watson investigate the legend of the titular supernatural beast.
Brass Works Theatre seats up to 90 people and in July entertained audiences with its premiere production Engineers' Blue. As South Gloucestershire's first and only professional theatre, it initially hoped to answer the question: is there a want or a need for a professional theatre in this region? The feedback received so far is a resounding 'yes!' and since then it has hosted other artistic events such as an arts exhibition.
Artistic Director of Brass Works Theatre Adrian Harris said: "This contemporary re-telling of a classic tale is perfect for adults and children alike and offers something different to the typical Christmas panto. The people of South Gloucestershire came in their hundreds to see our last production and I hope that they enjoy this one too.";
