I've waited 13 years to see a Conservative Prime Minister back in Downing Street and tonight that long wait is over..
I have to admit that I, as an old style Conservative, would have preferred a minority (a majority would have been even better) government but if the price of putting this country right is a coalition then so be it.I have worked hard and long together with a number of other activists who worked longer and harder than I did to get a Conservative MP in Kingswood and that hard work paid off last week.
It will be interesting to see how many Lib Dems end up in the cabinet. And even more interesting to see how they work together with the tories and how long it lasts. It was the only way(a coalition) in which the Lib Dems could have any influence on policy. My only regret is what price the Conservative Manifesto will have to pay for this jumping into bed with the `LIb Dems.
Apart from the election of the sainted Margaret, this has been ,for me , probably the most momentous day for Conservatives that I can remember. And I can just remember Winston Churchill as Prime Minister. And that makes me very old if not very wise.
I loved being at the count in Hanham High School, something I shall remember for the rest of my life.
