I couldn't care less about the bid, I think it's all ridiculous to be honest - what, seriously, are the chances that it will come to England and even if it did, why on earth would it come to Bristol?! ha ha! What about the transport?  I've been over to watch the rugby in Cardiff and it's brilliantly organised and everything's central and easy to get to.  Yet they're on about having the stadium out at Long Ashton aren't they? LOL - what's out there?  Just a traffic nightmare!!

Yep, they're serious. They want the World Cup in Bristol. I guess our rich heritage as slavers and pirates, as well as our City Centre weekend thuggery, over-priced and badly-planned transport, enormous new shopping facilities without enough parking and really, really apathetic and understaffed police force re the driving attractions.

They're planning to put fan villages up in Ashton Court and Clifton Downs (lovely to have those trashed for three weeks, eh?) and the players in hotels. Where the traffic will go, I can't guess. Fine we have busses, but the suspension bridge will have to be closed the entire time - imagine the Balloon Fiesta traffic for three weeks? No train connections going up there, nor ferry boats. While the city has gone through impressive development over the last ten years, it's simply not enough to hope it will manage with such a massive influx of visitors. And, really, do we even have the hotel space for all the teams, media and support that will be coming along?

No. I love Bristol (in spite of the above) but I don't see it as a venue, whether we get a stadium out of it or not. I don't give a crap about football - local infrastructure simply won't cope with demand. It isn't already - in 7 years time, can you imagine how much worse the local traffic will be already?

Of course, if winning the bid is the only way the Council will realise that local transport needs to be improved...
