Shocking amount of litter on the banks of the ring road between Longwell Green and Downend, I noticed today. Definitely time for a spring clean.

I notice Kingswood high street on the Morning after a Friday/Saturday night, onions, noodles, boxes of food etc, disgusting.  Wish people would take care of their surroundings more.

South Gloucestershire Council's Big Spring Clean 2010 has not been well publicised. The deadline for registering your event is this week. Get over to the southglos website and search on "spring clean" to register your clean-up event online by 26th February at the latest. The Council will supply bags, gloves etc - maybe even a skip - all free of charge, but only if you register by the deadline, so get organised before it's too late!

We need to be more rerspectfull of our town and keep it clean, Its about time people woke up and thought why Council tax is so high, if we have to pay people to pick up litter and do nothing ourselves what else can we expect. but to pay more council tax

In fairness Martin, with reference to the Ring Road it's probably people from outside of the wider community who are throwing rubbish from their car windows. I'd imagine that 60% of the road users live miles from this area, lots will be tradesman from up to 100 miles away along with company reps and lorry drivers from across the UK and Europe. Catch 22 scenario. But with regards to Kingswood Town Centre, it's a matter of trying to educate drunken teenagers leaving the club and pubs. Every place has this issue, even Canterbury which is spotless by day and littered at 2am.

Sorry Kevin, I called you Martin earlier by mistake. We all passed through Kingswood about 30 minutes ago after dropping a mate off home and the litter is as King1and mentions above. There's also a big Police presence here on weekend nights (still) and city marshalls. Surely the Police can start to fine the clubbers who are blatantly dropping litter in front of them and possibly hold the takeaways accountable for clearing up some of the rubbish? Kingswood has always been rough on weekends; unlike anywhere else in the wider community. Staple Hill, Hanham, Mangotsfield and Fishponds don't have this problem and Fishponds has twice as many pubs in a confined location and a huge student community, so why does it happen in Kingswood? Staple Hill is the same, lot's of pubs in a small area and very little litter. South Glos council marked Kingswood as a place that needs special attention and investment some years ago and although work has started, there's still so much to do. Bristol Council need to be doing more to assist South Glos here as well, especially in the 500m or so from St Michaels Church to Kingswood Job Centre in St George East, before connecting with South Glos. It's all Kingswood but there's small shops in each part of this once fantastic hub standing empty. All other South Glos town centres are really pleasant. The councillors from St George East, Hillfields, Hanham, Kings Chase, Warmley and other parts in Bristol and South Glos should work together here because it's their residemts who are the shoppers and who enjoy Kingswood's nightlife.
