Well you do have a valid point here... I can not understand that we go to the trouble of sorting everything else out.. and yet I put plastic in in the bottle bin and only got it thrown all over the front door and told they don't take it!
Don't take it.. what do they mean they don't recycle plastic! I am just as shocked about it as you are.......so you go henry1 shout as loud as you can... get it sorted COUNCIL!
Somerfield/Co-Op in kingswood have a plastic's recycling binsat the far back end of the car park,we've been using it regularly,we save our plastic milk bottle shampoo bottles juice bottle and so on the we use a big black sack to transport to the recycling bins in the car park.
Only recently have south Glos council news letter posted through our door this week have made mention to plastics and the dreaded waste food stuff, apparently in November this year 2010 they are going to be collecting waste food on a weekly basis and .....wait for it, Plastics yay ,these will be collected fortnightly. So roll on November fingers crossed it works out smoothly.
One question i have is with Cans,Glass,Cardboard, paper, plastics, and food waste being recycled what exactly is left to go in our Black bin?

Hi blue, I only read about the recycling of plastic bottles not just any plastic, didn't see it mentioned in the newsletter, (might have missed it). It would make sense to take all plastic though.
Black bin, good one, I spoke to a guy i work with and he lives in Bristol and he says if it wasn't for his young kids, (a two year old and the other a few weeks old) then it would be pretty much empty. So he mostly fills his with nappies and the plastic packaging with comes with certain foods/parcels.
Not sure if you noticed but some of us will get a new collecton day as well, we will all get the new day lists attached to our bins nearer the time.
First week of the new recycling went well for us,i put my black bin out with the white bag full of plastics and the food waste container.all empty and ready for next weeks green bin (ours is empty) Green bag for newspapers, box for tins and glass,Cardboard and the food waste container.
I find it easy to understand and hope this works well in our area, now i'd like a refund on my council tax for the recycling....any hope?

ReportSame for me Bluebuttons with the collection. Need to find the food waste bags, (Sainsbury's was sold out the other day of them). Noticed about 4 people in my street actually used them but I'm sure as time goes on it will become the norm. I do think it's very difficult and not very clear for any OAP on their own to work it out, my Mum still can't get her head around it so having to explain it a bit more, (still not sure what to do with those small drink/yoghurt bottles. Are they classed as plastic drink bottles or do i have to put them in the black bin? It's good the council has took on more staff to handle this but for all the, 'against CO2 guys' an extra 7 or 8 lorries pumping out horrible diesel smoke into the atmosphere can't be good for the environment.... can it?
