Six out of 10 people believe the quality of public services has been maintained or improved despite a raft of Government spending cuts, according to a new poll.
In a survey carried out by ICM on behalf of the BBC, more people said recycling collections, parks, libraries, schools and bus services had all improved over the past five years than those who felt the services had declined.
On the issue of recycling, 12% of the 1,031 people questioned said they thought it had got worse, compared to 48% who believe the service is now better, producing an overall rating of plus 36 percentage points.
Meanwhile, parks and open spaces recorded a score of plus 19, and leisure centres plus 18.
