Business reacts to Labour's economic proposals

Business groups have given mixed reactions to the economic proposals outlined by Labour Party leader Ed Miliband, some of which have sparked vigorous debate among politicians and business leaders.
Among the proposals outlined in Ed Miliband's speech to the Labour Party conference are plans to freeze energy prices, as well as proposals to freeze business rates and strengthen the national minimum wage.
The British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) welcomed the proposal to freeze business rates, but warned that offsetting the cost by postponing the planned reduction in corporation tax would impact on medium-sized companies, and called instead for fundamental reform of the business rates system.
