THE latest running of the Eastville Coaches Bristol League of Experts kicked off last weekend, with Mark Sherwood taking an early lead at the top of the standings.
On each night of action, which takes place at The Bulldog in Filton Avenue, the 16 players play down to quarter-finals, so there are effectively four "winners" each time.
Last weekend's victors were Keynsham Cricket Club's Sherwood, who beat Phil O'Connor 9-2 in his quarter-final, James Peto, Matt Draper and Damien Sherwood.
Avonmouth's Peto produced the shock of the evening when he beat Keynsham's Mike Johnson 6-5 in their quarter-final, while Draper was a 7-4 winner over Dave Kiernan, and Damien Sherwood beat Andy Parsons 7-4.
The standings after the opening round are as follows: 1 M Sherwood (Keynsham) 24 points, 2 D Sherwood (North Bristol), M Draper (Keynsham) 22, 4 J Peto (Avonmouth) 20, 5 D Kiernan (Avonmouth), M Johnson (Keynsham) 17, 7 P O'Connor (Avonmouth) 15, 8 A Parsons (North Bristol) 13.
In the West of England Super League, North Bristol took advantage at the top of the table with a 4-3 win at Olveston Sports & Social Club, while closest challengers Snooker City were beaten 4-3 at the Bristol Inn.
Third-placed Keynsham Cricket Club also fell to a defeat, going down 4-3 at Treble Chance, while Kingswood RBL closed the gap on the leading pack with a 7-0 win over Bendix Club.
