The completed bandstand.
It was just over eighteen months ago that the Friends of Page Park decided to restore the Bandstand to bring music and arts to the community on summer weekend afternoons.
The Bandstand was erected in 1927 and over the years had had many repairs and design changes which had left it in a very poor state.
After several discussions with the Conservation officer at South Glos Council and a number of interested parties, Architects, Lewis Foster Lewis drew up the final plans.
As the Bandstand is quite small and access difficult for anyone with movement limitations it was decided to add a lower performing area. All the grass surrounding the bandstand has now been replaced with stone paving and ramps making it easy for wheelchair access, and four large rose beds containing orange citrus scented roses.
The metal work has also been replaced with the new design matching the original gates of the old Hillhouse Estate.
We always knew it would be a costly process but the sum of £90,000 was a bit of a shock, with nothing to lose we set about applying for funding.
It was to our amazement that in just four months from December 2011 to March 2012 we had secured the funding to proceed with the project.
The work undertaken has been to restore and replace deceased wood and paint with protective paint. To replace and repoint all the stone work to its original condition. The broken roof tiles have been replaced with reclaimed
tiles of a similar age.
The restoration project is now complete and the bandstand is stunning.
The Friends would like to say a BIG thank you to, Ibstock Cory Environmental Trust, Cory Environmental Trust and SITA Trust for their financial support, Lewis Foster Lewis Architects for the amazing design, the exceptional workmanship of AZTECH Building Services Ltd for taking on the contract, Royal Forest Pennant Natural Stone for supplying the paving, Air Balloon and Automation for the creation of the metalwork, David Austin Roses for supplying the roses and South Glos Community Landscape Officer Mike Plumb for co-ordinating the project.
To all those budding artist the Bandstand is now available for performances. If you are interested in performing or putting on a performance please contact Tel 0117 9570032 or the Community Landscape dept at South Glos Council Tel 01454 868686.
The Friends would like to invite you all to our Grand Bandstand opening ceremony on Saturday 4th May 2013.
We are planning a big family picnic with children's entertainment and music throughout the day. A selection of food stalls will also be available.
It is with great pleasure that the Page family have accepted our invitation to officially open the Bandstand for the community.
We look forward to seeing you all for a very special day.

It looks really good ... well done to the Page Park team and to the restorers too.
We are looking forward to playing our particular brand of music there at some point later this year.
We currently have spaces for extra musicians (aged from 8 all the way to 26) within our ranks. Brass players, Drummers, Xylophonsists and dancers. All levels of experience can be catered for, even novices
