A local Olympic athlete is due to push the button at Bristol's biggest firework show on Friday 2 November.
Three-time Olympic archer Larry Godfrey will be at the Downend Firework Show at King George V Playing Fields to set off the spectacular display which is this year raising funds for Macmillan Cancer Care, Children in Need and various local causes.
The 36-year-old Kingswood-born Larry has been competing in International Archery for over 10 years, representing Great Britain. He finished 4th in this year's Summer Olympics with an overall score of 680 and is now in training again for the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics.
The display organised by the Great Western Round Table is expected to draw crowds of thousands and organiser Andrew Simmonds thinks it will be the best yet:
"It's fantastic news that Larry Godfrey has agreed to push the button at our fireworks display. He's a local hero and an inspiration; I know the kids will love seeing him in his Olympic tracksuit after the buzz of the Olympics in the summer.
"We also have a great line-up of local talent on the live music stage and children's entertainment throughout the night. It's a huge event so we'd love people to come along and support a local organisation raising funds for local causes."
The Downend Firework show is now in its 41st year and has become a local institution.
Live music will come from local bands Ant Noel & the Peabody Drakes, Peter & the Harmonics, Polly & the Billet Doux and the Filton Royal Mail Choir.
A children's display will take place at 6.30pm and will be attended by the much-loved Pudsey Bear. Sponsored by Mama Bears Day Nursery this is a favourite for kids and adults alike.
The display is being performed by Bristol-based company Skyburst which has sourced the materials especially from China.
Andrew continued: "We have the best fireworks, great live music, professional children's entertainment and we have Larry Godfrey! What more could you want!"
