Cameron's policy is a front for service cuts

THE Tory-led North Somerset District Council must be overjoyed that they are able to introduce their boss's Big Society policies under the disguise of the massive cuts forced upon them by the coalition.
Their problem is that gradually people are beginning to realise just what is meant by the term Big Society. It means the decimation of all the services that the public rely upon unless the same public are prepared to take them on "free of charge".
Where it is impossible for the public to take on a particular role the ideological doctrine of the Tories – helped by their Lib Dem colleagues – ensures that the private sector is handed them "free of charge" under the pretext that they will run them better.
They forget to mention that every public service which has been handed over in the past is now heavily subsidised by the taxpayer and this has been inadvertently confirmed by the leader of North Somerset council, Nigel Ashton, who has admitted that his party's transfer of all the Weston leisure facilities to the private sector is still being subsidised by taxpayers.
The fact of the matter is that ever since the welfare state was introduced the Tories have tried to destroy it under various pretexts. David Cameron continues to do so using the smokescreen of the worldwide banking collapse to justify carrying on with its destruction under his policy of the Big Society.
Local Lib Dem councillor Mike Bell could not resist trying to score a political point about the cuts by blaming Labour for leaving the deficit which makes savage cuts necessary.
He has obviously not been keeping in touch with his coalition brethren who also used this excuse alongside their Tory colleagues when they supported George Osborne's deficit reduction programme. The problem for Cllr Bell is that the IMF and the OECD, alongside countless economic experts, are now questioning the coalition government's monetary policies and are hinting that we may be heading for a double-dip recession.
Cameron and Osborne are now saying that their policies are having problems because of the worldwide financial situation so, in effect, are saying that they actually lied when they blamed the last Labour government.

I think Ed Balls apologised for insufficient regulation of the Banks at a time when Osborne was complaining that Labour were regulating them too much. In Opposition, Cameron promised to match Labour's spending and that any Minister proposing front line service cuts would be sent away to think again. When they took office due to Clegg's betrayal of the Liberal Democrats every economic indicator was going in the right direction after Labour had taken the right measures following the worldwide banking crisis of 2008. Now under this Coalition every indicator is going in the wrong direction and Councils are left to pick up the pieces - or not if it is a Conservative Council which has an innate hostility towards public services.

ReportThat's what you were saying prior to May 2010. The country didn't believe it then and certainly wouldn't trust the socialists now, even after a halfhearted apology for profligate public spending which got us into this mess.
