Man dies in collision near Frenchay Hospital, Bristol this morning

A man has died after being hit by a vehicle near to the Texaco garage on Frenchay Park Road in Bristol this morning (November 20).

Shortly after 7am the pedestrian, in his 70s, was taken to Frenchay Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The vehicle did not stop following the collision. Police believe the vehicle will have damage to its front.

The road is closed between Beckspool Road and Malmains Drive while the emergency services deal with the incident and investigate the circumstances of the collision. Traffic is being diverted along Beckspool Road and Malmains Drive.

Anyone who saw the collision or the vehicle leaving the area, or sees a car with recent damage to its front, should contact police on 101.

    Renewed appeal from police: The man who died after the collision has been named as 74-year-old Roger Beaves from Bristol.

    Police continue to appeal for witnesses with information on this incident which occurred at around 7.05am.

    One man has been arrested and released on bail as part of this investigation.

    Anyone with any information is asked to contact the collision investigation unit on 101.

    Update from police - 2.10pm: Man arrested following fail-to-stop collision.

    "This lunchtime we have arrested a 24-year-old man on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He is currently in custody and we have seized a vehicle.

    "Enquiries into this incident continue and we still want to hear from anyone with information about the collision. If you can help please contact us by calling 101."

    "Frenchay Park Road is open again following a fatal collision earlier today. Motorists affected by the closure are thanked for their patience as emergency services dealt with the incident."
