Kingswood's Labour councillors are urging local people to have their say on plans to change parking restrictions across the area, which are the Council's response to many years worth of requests from residents.

Following meetings and site visits involving local residents and councillors, the Council is now consulting on plans to modify existing waiting restrictions and introduce new ones which include:

•No waiting at any time

•Limited waiting

•No waiting between 8am-5pm

•Loading only bay

•Formal disabled bays

The consultation opened today and will run until 12th September. The purpose of the proposed changes is to restrict dangerous areas of parking whilst ensuring that there is adequate parking provision for residents and visitors.  This will be done by introducing more 'no waiting at any time' restrictions (double yellow lines) and 'no waiting at specific times' (single yellow lines). The plan also includes converting several advisory 'keep clears' to no waiting at any time restrictions.

At the same time, existing on-street parking concerns in Kingswood would be addressed by improvements to on-street parking around the town centre and the introduction of areas of limited parking to discourage all day parking but allow sufficient access to the local shops and businesses.

The list of roads affected by the plans is reproduced below and detailed plans are available online at http://consultations.southglos.gov.uk

Commenting on the consultation, local councillor Pat Rooney (Woodstock ward) says:

"Residents across Kingswood have told us about their concerns with parking and safety over the years, so I am pleased that at last the Council has firm proposals for action. I would urge all concerned residents to respond to the formal consultation so that the Council is clear about what is wanted in each location."

Residents can respond to the consultation by emailing comments to transportservices@southglos.gov.uk or by sending them in writing to FREEPOST RTCT-JXLE-EET, South Gloucestershire Council, Kingswood waiting restrictions consultation, Design & Operations Team, Civic Centre, High Street, Kingswood, BRISTOL BS15 9TR
