Driving down vehicle crime in Warmley

Police are urging motorists in the Warmley area to help them drive down thefts of vehicle number plates.
Fitting tamper-proof screws is one way to stop vehicle number plate theft.
Neighbourhood officers will be in Sunningdale Drive, Warmley, between 5-8pm tonight (Thursday December 20) offering crime prevention advice and swapping standard number plate fittings with security screws there and then – for free.
Thieves steal the number plates of law-abiding citizens and use them to try to avoid detection when committing other crimes, from getting petrol without paying to drug dealing.
Neighbourhood PCSO Ian Taylor said: "Fitting tamper-proof screws is a quick and effective way of securing your number plate.
"Replacing stolen number plates is inconvenient but if you aren't displaying your registration you could be fined £60.
"It's important to tell us if your number plates are stolen by calling 101 – otherwise if your registration details come up as part of our enquiries into a crime we could be knocking on your door."
