Is Costa coming to Kingswood?

It's rumoured this week that a Costa Coffee will be opening in Kingswood town centre soon - with speculation that the franchisees who already run three controversial coffee shops in Bristol are behind the move.

South West Coffee Ltd, which is run by Bristol couple Stuart and Lynn Montgomery, already has Costa branches in Portishead and Henleaze, plus three newer ones - in Whiteladies Road, Gloucester Road, and Westbury-on-Trym - that are being investigated over concerns that they do not have the correct planning permission.

The branches on Whiteladies Road and Gloucester Road have both been served with enforcement orders and Bristol City Council has been investigating the opening of the third cafe on Westbury Hill after receiving a complaint.

Last year Mr and Mrs Montgomery won Costa's Franchisee of the Year Award. Their website says they have "many more" stores opening soon.

Mr Montgomery told Kingswood People that he had no comment to make about a coffee shop opening in Kingswood at this stage.

Last year Costa Coffee overtook McDonald's to become Britain's third largest food and drink chain.

Let us know if you've heard where Costa might be opening. Is it what Kingswood needs?

They've recently opened one in Fishponds as part of the Old Post Office - Smith & Jones Pub. This is far more in fitting with the area and it offers a very pleasant lounge in the pub.

healthy competition can only be good, I'm sure Boswell's won't mind too much, there are plenty of people that like coffee. Sometimes at Boswell's they are full and so nowhere to sit so another place nearby that does only coffee and small meals is a sure fire winner. I will add that, 'Sugo' restaurant do a mean Americano, Latte and you don't have to eat anything to enjoy it either, advertising over :-)

Hope you are right Becky - it's just what Kingswood needs and hopefully it will fill an empty unit. My money's on a shop very close to Kings Chase.
