Kingswood's Christmas tree went up at the Kings Chase Shopping Centre today and the festive lights are also now in place.

For the second year running, there is to be no official switch-on of the Christmas lights Kingswood Business Association had hoped to stage a big event in the town centre but last week revealed it had abandoned those plans, blaming difficulties with road closures, health and safety and insurance issues.

However, there are events taking place in Kingswood to get us into the festive spirit! Kingswood Community Association Pre-School is inviting people join in a "good old-fashioned Christmas" at Kingswood Community Centre in High Street on Friday, December 2 from 6.30pm.

There will be a grotto and stalls including a tombola, raffle, children's gifts, candles and jewellery, with hot dogs, mulled wine and mince pies for sale, and a bar available.

Meanwhile Santa will be in his grotto at Our Lady of Lourdes School in Hanham Road, Kingswood, this Saturday, November 26 from 2pm to 5pm.

And Christmas trees go on sale at from December 3 at Kingswood Congregational Church.  And the church will be the venue for Kingswood's popular Circuit 16 Youth and Junior choirs'  Christmas concert on Tuesday, December 20 at 7pm.

Let us know what events you have heard about taking place in and around Kingswood in the run-up to Christmas

Hi Becky not sure if you had the chance to look yet, but outside WH Smiths in the Precinct there is now a huge artificial true covered in Baubles. the Precinct itself has it's trimmings up and it looks excellent! Well done the businesses/council on this, looks very festive. Wish the high street would take note.

What do other people think? Would you rather see a traditional real tree, like Downend's?

Bring back the real Christmas Tree, that useless light thing attached to a lampost is a laughing stock. I showed pics of it last year to the people i work with and they agreed it wasn't any good.. The lights up and down the high street need aren't great either, they were so much better years ago.
