Speaking after the announcement of the result of the election of Bristol's directly-elected mayor, South Gloucestershire Council Labour Group Leader Councillor Andy Perkins says:
"I congratulate Mr Ferguson on his victory. The big issues facing our area such as transport policy and economic growth extend well beyond council boundaries and we need to tackle them together in a constructive way. This was certainly recognised by the former leaderships within Bristol and it is my hope that Mr Ferguson's tenure as Mayor will not see any reduction in cross-border co-operation with neighbouring authorities."
