Two teams of fundraisers from Lloyds TSB are donning running shoes and taking on the Stadium Dash Challenge in memory of three colleagues who sadly passed away over the last two years.

The Hot Steppers 1 and 2, who work across customer service and HR at the Lloyds Banking Group, will be completing the brand new challenge at the Memorial Stadium when it takes place on Sunday 3 February, to support local charity St Peter's Hospice.

Organiser Lucy Dovey said losing three close friends and colleagues in such a short space of time to Cancer, spurred them on to give something back to the charity which cared for two of them.

Lucy said: "Last October we began fundraising for St Peter's Hospice and Cancer Research UK because we were so affected by what had happened to our colleagues. When we heard about the Stadium Dash Challenge we decided to sign up straight away, even though it's a daunting task!

"We really wanted to support this local cause as well as raise money for patients and families cared for by the hospice. It's going to be hard work but we'll give it our all!"

The Stadium Dash is a new event for Bristol which asks those taking part to run up and down the 415 steps in the Stadium to raise sponsorship. A time to beat has been set at 3 minutes, 15 seconds and people can choose to enter individually or within a team of four.

Team 1 of the Hot Steppers is made up of Tom Clark, Ed Lowe, Mark Paul and Gary Dillow. Team 2 consists of Jason Hadlow, Kylie Lawence, Andrew Forster and Lucy Dovey, who says it could get competitive!

She said: "Having split into two teams of four I can see a little bit of healthy competition emerging! At the moment we are all being very supportive of each other but I can tell that on the day it's going to be a different story!

"As well as beating each other there's the added incentive of beating the set time of 3 minutes, 15 seconds which we're determined to do! A lot of us are in training for other events like the Bath Half Marathon and the Rock Solid Race so this is the perfect motivation."

St Peter's Hospice is in its 35th anniversary year and now cares for more than 2,670 patients with life limiting illnesses and provides emotional and practical support for their families. Each year it costs £6.8 million to run the hospice with 77% of that coming from public support.

St Peter's Hospice events fundraiser Louisa James said: "This is a fab event to get involved in, it's the first one we've ever done so we really want people to set the bar high!

"It's also going to be the last time people will have the chance to do something like this at the Memorial Stadium before it is gone.

"There are still spaces available so anyone wishing to take part should get in touch. You can join individually or as a team of friends, family or colleagues like the Lloyds guys.

"It's going to be a great day and it's an event anyone can join in with, we look forward to seeing you there!"

The Stadium Dash is taking place from 10am on Sunday 3 February. First, second and third prizes will be given to the fastest individuals or teams.
