Great Britain's hopes of a men's archery team medal at the London Olympics ended today as the trio, including Kingswood-born Larry Godfrey, were beaten by Ukraine at Lord's.

Godfrey, 36, who is the British No 1, still has a chance of solo Olympic glory in the singles competition in which he is ranked fourth, but he had set his sights on better in the team event.

Having ranked in eighth place on Friday, the British archers had a first-round assignment against ninth-seeded Ukraine this morning.

But despite being a close match on paper, Godfrey and team mates Simon Terry and Alan Wills went down 223-212 to Viktor Ruban, Dmytro Hrachov and Markiyan Ivashko.

The home team shot five maximums in their 24 attempts, compared to their opponents' 11.

Great effort though Larry. My wife works with Larry at Rolls-Royce and he said the whole experience was amazing.
