The circus is on its first full tour of Britain for 30 years and is putting on a special Gala Performance on Tuesday 24 September in aid of St Peter's Hospice as part of the charity's 35th anniversary celebrations.
The performance will take place at the Durdham Downs at 7pm and will feature acts such as aerial performers, springboard acrobatics, clowns, hand balance artists, flying and swinging trapeze acts and silk performers.
Tony Hopkins, Billy Smart's Circus director said: "We are thrilled to be supporting St Peter's Hospice once again this year when we visit Bristol. This is a huge year for us as it's the first time we've taken the circus back on the road since 1971 so we're hoping for a sell out show to raise as much money as possible.
"The Gala Performance will be our first performance in Bristol so anyone excited about us coming to town should come along; the atmosphere will be amazing and you'll be supporting a fantastic cause at the same time.
"St Peter's Hospice do great work in Bristol so it's a pleasure to be putting on this special performance for them. We'll also be doing some bucket collections so please dig deep!"
Billy Smart's Circus became a household name in the 1950s when its touring productions were known for being slick and professional. Now revamped for modern audiences, the circus has retained its magic and dedication to young performers.
Petra Littlefair, community fundraiser at St Peter's Hospice said: "We have had links with Billy Smart's Circus for many years so we're thrilled they are supporting us again this year.
"The circus is a great night out for the whole family so we're really looking forward to it."
St Peter's Hospice, now in its 35th anniversary year cares for more than 2,670 people with life limiting illnesses every year, as well as supporting family members. It costs £6.8 million to run the hospice yearly with 77% of that coming from the generosity of public and community support.
